A baby was found seriously injured at a Masterton address.

An investigation is under way after a three-month-old baby was found with non-accidental critical injuries in Wairarapa.

Police were called to a Masterton address, where the baby was found injured, shortly after 8.30pm on Thursday.

The baby remains in serious condition on Saturday after it was rushed to Wairarapa Hospital and then flown to Starship Hospital in Auckland.

Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Bysouth said the incident was traumatic for all involved and police were working hard to investigate the circumstances of the assault while supporting the whānau and the baby.

“The co-operation of whānau, friends and the wider community support networks is critical to the investigation and police wish to thank everyone who, despite the distressing circumstances, have been fully co-operative with the initial investigation,” he said.

Police would finish their scene examination of two Masterton homes and one vehicle on Saturday.

No charges have yet been laid against anyone in relation to the assault, Bysouth said.
