‘It’s like the wild west’: Northland and Auckland houses shot up – World news

Various cars and houses in Northland and south Auckland were shot up in the early hours of Tuesday morning, as gang tensions continue to rise.

Police said they received reports of shots heard in the Kaikohe area around 4.25am, but no injuries were reported at the time.

Stuff understands a car load of gang members drove through residential areas in the north-east of the Northland township, shooting at a number of cars and houses in the area.

It’s believed to be part of ongoing tensions between the Tribesmen and Killer Beez gangs, which have escalated in the past week and are linked to other conflict between the two groups in Auckland.

“It’s like the wild west,” a police source said.

“It’s getting out of control again.”

The source said police resources in the area were stretched. It was only a matter of time before an innocent bystander was caught in the crossfire of the feud, the source said.

Meanwhile, a south Auckland property is being guarded by armed police after shots were fired on Monday evening.

Neighbours of a property on Clayton Ave, Otara said they heard gunshots around 7pm.

The house has several broken windows, and one neighbour said they thought the gunshot noises had come from the nearby motorway.

“I thought it was like a tyre popping or something, I didn’t know it was something more until I saw police arrive,” said the neighbour, who Stuff has chosen not to name.

Another neighbour, also unnamed, said the incident was over pretty quick.

“It was just a couple of shots. Bang, bang, bang. And then they just took off,” he said.

It’s understood the shooting is linked to the recent string of tit-for-tat shootings between the Killer Bees and the Tribesmen.
