ULFA signs peace accord with Centre, Assam govt; Amit Shah assures time-bound implementation of pact

The United Liberation Entrance of Assam (ULFA)’s pro-talks faction on Wednesday signed a tripartite peace accord with the Centre and the Assam authorities within the presence of Union Residence Minister Amit Shah, marking a big breakthrough in northeast’s insurgency drawback.

The peace pact is anticipated to finish many years outdated insurgency in Assam.

Nonetheless, the hardline faction of the ULFA headed by Paresh Baruah shouldn’t be a part of the settlement. Baruah is believed to be residing at a spot alongside the China-Myanmar border.

The ULFA was fashioned in 1979 with the demand for a “sovereign Assam”.
