Rajya Sabha suspends 34 Opposition MPs, minutes after Lok Sabha expels 33 lawmakers

The Rajya Sabha suspended 34 Opposition MPs on Monday, minutes after Lok Sabha expelled 33 Opposition lawmakers together with Congress chief within the Home Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK MPs T R Baalu and Dayanidhi Maran, and TMC’s Saugata Roy for disrupting the proceedings.

The MPs suspended from Rajya Sabha embody Congress’ Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala and KC Venugopal.

The lawmakers have been suspended for the rest of the Winter Session of the Parliament, stated Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

81 Opposition MPs suspended from Parliament

With this a complete of 81 Opposition MPs have been suspended from Parliament within the ongoing winter session.

On Monday (18 December, 2023), 33 MPs of Lok Sabha and 34 from Rajya Sabha had been suspended.

On Thursday (14 December, 2023), 14 lawmakers, 13 from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha had been suspended.
