Punjab farmers asked to stop burning stubble forced government official to light it

A bunch of farmers within the Bathinda district of Punjab allegedly compelled a authorities official, who was a member of a workforce tasked with stopping farm fires, to burn the stubble that was left in a area on Friday, thereby courting controversy.

The incident was made public after Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, uploaded a supposedly full footage of it on his X account.

Mann denounced the act and acknowledged that an FIR report had been filed.

The occasion occurred inside the boundaries of the Nahian Wala police station in Mehma Sarja village, in response to Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulneet Singh Khurana.

“To steer the farmers in Mehma Sarja village to not burn the stubble, a workforce of officers had gone there. Harpreet Singh, our civil administration officer, was coerced by the native farmers to burn his stubble whereas he was mendacity within the area by calling their union throughout this time, the police officer acknowledged.

In line with SSP Khurana, a FIR has been filed on this case below the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”We’ve filed a proper grievance about this.
