Landline facility set up for trapped workers

Officers introduced on Saturday {that a} landline facility has been established on the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi to keep up communication between trapped employees and their households.

“We have set up a telephone exchange. We will give them a phone connected with the line via the pipe being used for sending food. This phone will have incoming and outgoing facilities. They can talk to their family,” DGM, BSNL, Rakesh Chaudhary instructed PTI.

The trade has been arrange 200 metres away from the Silkyara tunnel, Chaudhary mentioned.

With rescue work briefly halted on Friday because of obstacles, impatience is rising among the many 41 trapped males and their family members.

At present, communication is facilitated by a six-inch vast pipe, with an endoscopic digital camera offering a visible of the circumstances inside.

Drilling on the collapsed tunnel part has been halted since Friday because the auger machine encountered a number of hurdles, finally breaking, based on a tunnelling knowledgeable on website.

As a substitute, rescuers are contemplating guide drilling for the remaining 10 to 12 meters or making a vertical escape passage for the trapped employees.

The multi-agency rescue operation started on November 12 after a landslide precipitated a portion of the under-construction tunnel on Uttarakhand’s Char Dham path to collapse, trapping the employees inside.
