The Defence Ministry has permitted the acquisition of 9 maritime surveillance plane for the Indian Navy and 6 maritime patrol plane for the Indian Coast Guard, mentioned defence sources on Friday.
The 15 maritime patrol planes could be modelled on the Made in India C-295 transport plane and the value of the tasks is round Rs 29,000 crore, the sources added.
The transport plane could be outfitted with the required radars and sensors and changed into a maritime patrol airplane by the Defence Analysis and Improvement Organisation’s Centre for Airborne Techniques (CABS), defence officers mentioned.
