Crumbled Portal Multiplicity Of Compliance Making GST Complicated CAIT

The inefficiency and frequent changes in goods and services tax (GST) portal and rules are quite complicated and adding roadblocks for Indian traders and businessmen, said Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday.

The CAIT has urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to hold a review of the GST taxation system along with stakeholders and to promote ease of doing business.

BC Bhartia, National President and Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary-General, CAIT in a joint statement said that the act is amended as per the requirement of the GST portal. In fact, the portal should have been made as per the act. This is causing undue hardship to the businessmen.

The trade leaders suggested that it is high time to include trade representatives in the GST council and laws and procedures should be made with the consultation. A total revamp of GST in respect of rates and compliances are required.

“There is an urgent need to relook the GST taxation system to make it stable and simple. The complicated GST tax structure coupled with zero accountability of officials is the root cause for creating a major roadblock in widening the tax base of GST,” they said.
