Maharashtra govt will not disturb OBC quota in any method: Devendra Fadnavis

Amid protests to oppose the inclusion of the Maratha group within the Different Backward Class class for reservation functions, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mentioned Saturday that the federal government is evident about not disturbing the OBC quota in any method.

Interesting to OBC members to finish their protest in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagpur and Chandrapur, Fadnavis mentioned, “The state authorities has taken a transparent stand about not touching, lowering or sharing the OBC quota. Therefore, we request the OBC group to withdraw their agitation.

“The deputy CM said he personally requested the agitators in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where he attended a special cabinet meeting earlier in the day. “I believe that those (protesters) in Sambhajinagar will end their hunger strike,” he mentioned.

Fadnavis mentioned these agitating in Chandrapur and Nagpur also needs to withdraw their protest. “I will be meeting those in Nagpur and request them to withdraw their agitation,” he mentioned.

The Maratha quota difficulty returned to centre stage within the state when the police on September 1 baton-charged a violent mob at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district after protesters allegedly refused to let authorities shift Manoj Jarange, an activist on starvation strike over the quota difficulty, to a hospital.

The state then started talks with Jarange and determined to provide Kunbi caste certificates to the Marathas whose ancestors had been described as Kunbi in Nizam-era paperwork of the Hyderabad kingdom. It’ll enable the Marathas from the state’s Marathwada area to avail of quota advantages because the Kunbis fall within the OBC group.

Nonetheless, the transfer prompted the Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh to launch a protest to oppose the inclusion of Marathas within the OBC class for reservation in authorities jobs and schooling.
